Tuesday Electives 2012 Q1

Last year, Tuesday electives were a big hit with the CCS student body. This year, on retreat, the students sat in anticipation as Mrs. Collins described what our first quarter Tuesday elective choices would be. She announced that the three options were a creative writing class, Kristen Price’s “Trash to treasure” class, and a Golf Basics class with Mr. Collins.

For the kids that have a passion to write, the creative writing class was a great option to take for the first nine weeks at CCS. In that class, the teacher gives them a short prompt to write about and encourages them to use their five senses to write.

Kristen Price’s “Trash to Treasure” class became a quick favorite at CCS last year. Something really cool that the “Trash to Treasure” class is doing this year is decorating the rotunda. If you have passed through anytime in the past week, you would have seen a really cute display of wreaths, chalkboards, and little pumpkins that were all made by the students in the class.

In the Golf Basics class, Mr. Collins is teaching us the very basics of Golf. Because this is a class for beginners it is a very useful and helps those who really know nothing about golf learn things they never even knew about the sport! Mr. Randy White came in this past week to show the students the proper way to hold the golf club. After practicing that a few times, he led the class outside and gave us all a golf club. Then, he had them all practice swinging the golf club like they were really hitting the ball. He made sure they were all having proper form (and also that we weren’t hitting each other with the clubs).

As you can see, there are some really fun electives going on at CCS right now! If you’re ever around on a Tuesday morning, feel free to stop by and see the fun that’s happening! Also, keep your eye out for more things from the “Trash to Treasure” class…I’m sure there’s more to come!
