Job Shadowing

C3(college, careers, and choices) is a required class to graduate for Calvary Christian schools. The class is taught by Ruth Collins and is counted as a Bible class. In this class we learned what our goals for the future will be, our plan for jobs, and what field of work we want to go into.

Probably one of the best things that we did in the class was job shadow day! This is a special day that only happens once in your life, and will be remembered for a long time. First you have to think of a couple jobs you would like to pursue – I was interested mostly in shadowing a car mechanic.

Once she found a spot for every one of the students in the class we planned a Friday and just waited. Finally it came! Mrs. Collins found a spot for me in grand haven, Z-tire automotive center. They called and told me to be there at 9 A.M, so I arrived right on time.

Once I got there I met the owner John and his wife, he explained to me his whole background, and how he got into it all. As soon as the conversation died down he showed me the shop. We went into the shop and I met the boys, Alex, Jeremy, and another guy. I pretty much got right to work right away. I changed oil, rotated and changed tires, balanced tires, and changed an engine block.

The whole day was a blast, and I really loved it and I really want to go into that line of work. Apparently, I did such a good job and I impressed the owner so much, he gave me a job application and told me to get it in ASAP so we could talk about summer employment. Over all I think I would really enjoy this line of work, I think it would fit my personality and me learning style. My goal is to get a job here over the summer and maybe even longer.
