The National Honor Society Induction ceremony took place on Thursday, May 17, 2012. Ten inductees joined the current members, David Borgeson, Hayley Mohr, Michael Warren, Megan Beals, Jefferson Britton, Natalie Kapanka, Anna Swanson, and Brianna Zehr. The new members are Brittany Chartrand, Joel Fullmer, Cory Greeno, Shymari Harris, Elise Maine, Michelle Postiff, Taylor Richards, Emma Rudd, Brook Sigler, and Annie VanTine.
The ceremony was held in the chapel. A table was set up in the front with a white lace table cloth. On the table, there were five candles, a lit pillar candle with four tall ones around it. The ceremony began at 7:00, so the low sun shining through the windows created nice lighting.
The ceremony opened with an introduction to the Calvary Chapter of the National Honor Society by David Borgeson, the president of the chapter. Then the National Honor Society officers went up and each lit a candle. The four candles represented the four attributes that are honored in the National Honor Society. Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service were acknowledged by Haley Mohr, Megan Beals, Natalie Kapanka, and Mike Warren.
Then, the inductees were told to stand and they recited the National Honor Society Pledge. They were invited up, one by one, to receive their pin and membership card. They also signed the NHS membership book and shook hands with the officers, Mr. Maine , and Mr. Kapanka.
After all the inductees had taken their turn, Dr. Edward Breitenbach spoke. He spoke about Solomon and his wisdom. He recognized how Solomon, even though he had a good beginning, was led astray. He warned the inductees to be wise and stay on the right track because it is easy to be led astray. Jeff Britton then closed the ceremony with prayer. Afterwards, a reception was held in the rotunda. Refreshments included punch, cheese cake and cream puffs, along with cheese and crackers. The evening was a great way to welcome the new inductees.
